Description
Important and Magical Silver Yatagan Sword w. scabbard.This is not your ordinary, one of the mill Yatagan. Not only that this one has been on loan to, and exhibited in, Royal Ontario Museum (Canada) from 1996 until May of 2015. This 18
th
century Turkish Yatagan have Silver nielloed hilt, which is a great rarity, and decorated leather sheath with all Silver furniture, with what looks like silversmith marks. The blade also bears the maker mark.
Now we got to the magical part. For the folks of the Muslim persuasion, most important part is the inscription in Arabic on top edge of the blade. There are there the names of “Seven Sleepers” and their dog Qitmir. It is said, that these “Seven Sleepers” are the proof of life after death. It is also said that these names written down will protect you, which is so important especially when they are written on the blade of your sword.
The Sword is in excellent, as found condition. Dimensions are: 64 cm (25 1/4”) overall, 4.8 cm (1 7/8”) wide, Sheath is: 70 cm (27 1/2”) long, 6 cm (2 3/8) wide, 3.5 cm (1 3/8”) deep.
